Driver Frees Self From Crash Down Side of Hwy 243 Near Banning

Fire officials report that the driver was able to "self-extricate" from their car that slide more than 100 feet down the side of the roadway.

A driver managed to escape serious injury after driving 150 down a mountain road near Banning, fire officials reported.

The crash happened Monday around 10 a.m. off Highway 243 near Mount Edna Road, according to Mark Annas of the Riverside County Fire Department.

The vehicle went off the road for unknown reasons, and slide an estimated 150 feet down the side of the mountain, according to fire reports.

The person was able to free themselves from the wreckage, though, before emergency personnel got to the scene.  They were taken to the hospital with injuries described as "minor to moderate," according to Annas.
