Dozens of Students Busted Trying to Skip School in MoVal, Police Say

"The goal of the program was to take a proactive approach toward student daytime curfew violations and emphasize the importance of school attendance and how it correlates with student success in the future," sheriff's Sgt. Larry Gyll said.

Sheriff's deputies picked up 25 young people suspected of skipping school in Moreno Valley Tuesday, cited them and delivered them to the respective campuses.

The curfew and truancy operation, done in cooperation with the Moreno Valley and Val Verde unified school districts, started at 8 a.m. and wrapped up about noon, sheriff's Sgt. Larry Gyll said.

Armed with a list of absent students, deputies went in search of them and found 25 of them, he said.
