The San Gorgonio Special Operations Gang Task Force identified the suspect as Ramon Islas Ruiz, a 22-year-old gang member from Beaumont.

At about 7 a.m. Friday, the Gang Task Force tracked Ruiz to a residence in the 1200 block of Massachusetts Avenue Beaumont, where he refused to give himself up, police said.

With assistance from Beaumont police, the Gang Task Force set up a perimeter around the residence and requested help from a Riverside County sheriff's special weapons and tactics team trained to deal with barricaded suspects, according to police.

Shortly after the arrival of the sheriff's SWAT team, Ruiz came out of the residence and gave himself up without incident, police said.

Ruiz was taken into custody by the Gang Task Force and booked at Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility just after 2 p.m. Friday, according to police and inmate records.

The Gang Task Force will be filing attempt murder charges against Ruiz with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, police said.
