Deputies in the San Jacinto area did 75 spot checks of registered sex offenders' residences on Oct. 31 and found all but one in compliance with local municipal code prohibiting Halloween decorations, according to the Sheriff's Department.
"Section 290 of the California Penal Code requires persons
convicted of specific sexual crimes to register with the agency where
they reside," sheriff's Sgt. J. Orona said. "San Jacinto City Municipal Code also prohibits registered
sex offenders from decorating their residence or participating in the
Orona said 74 of the 75 registered sex offenders were in
compliance with San Jacinto Municipal Code, and one of the registrants
was not home or moved.
Detectives intend to follow up to determine if the
registrant is out of compliance, Orona said.
San Jacinto deputies plan to conduct similar sweeps to verify registered sex
offenders are living at their reported residences, as well as probation and/or parole searches of registered sex offenders who are on
probation and/or parole, Orona said.
"Our officers will take all appropriate
measures against any subject found to be willfully out of compliance
with their registration terms," Orona said.
