Decomposed Human Remains Found Near Highway 243 in Idyllwild

Sheriff's and coroner's investigators were unable to identify the sex of the individual at the scene, a sheriff's sergeant said. No signs of foul play were evident.

A decomposed human body was found about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 11 near Highway 243 and Jameson Drive in Idyllwild, according to the Sheriff's Department.

"Two men discovered the body while waiting for a tow service to arrive and assist them with their stalled vehicle," Sgt. W. Clear of the sheriff's Hemet Station said in a statement released Thursday. "The clothed remains were located in a wooded area approximately fifty yards from the roadway next to a small transient-type encampment."

Sheriff's and coroner's investigators were unable to identify the sex of the individual at the scene, Clear said. No signs of foul play were evident.

Items found in the encampment may assist with identifying the subject, Clear said.

Idyllwild is in the San Jacinto Mountains south of Banning, Beaumont and the San Gorgonio Pass.
