DEA: 600 Marijuana Plants Seized in Beaumont Grow Operation

The Federal Drug Enforcement Administration is investigating a massive, "sophisticated" marijuana growing operation that was found operating out of Beaumont.

The DEA and other local agencies have shut down shop on a massive marijuana growing operation that was housed in a Beaumont warehouse, officials tell Patch.

The operation was halted last week, on Nov. 14, DEA spokeswoman Sarah Pullen told Patch on Tuesday.

During the operation, in which local police officers from Beaumont assisted, hundreds of plants were seized after a search warrant was served at a warehouse in an industrial complex on Maple Avenue and 3rd Street, according to Pullen and Beaumont police.

"As a result of the search warrant approximately 600 marijuana plants from a sophisticated marijuana growing operation were seized," Pullen told Patch.

Witnesses who saw the seizure take place, described a scene of dozens of law enforcement personnel swarming in on the location, and carrying out plant after plant-- and witnessed several "high tech" looking pieces of watering and lighting equipment inside the warehouse.

However, DEA officials would not go into further detail about the operation, since they are still investigating.

"There are not many additional details at this time as this is part of an on-going operation," Pullen said.

Pullen did not estimate how much the operation was worth, however similar busts in the past have been valued in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
