CHP Anti-DUI Crackdown Planned This Weekend
The CHP's "maximum enforcement period" gets under way at 6 p.m. Friday and continues to 11:59 p.m. Monday.
Beginning Friday, the California Highway Patrol will be intensifying efforts to catch drunken and drug-impaired drivers, speeders and other violators as part of a Labor Day weekend crackdown.
The CHP's "maximum enforcement period" gets under way at 6 p.m. Friday and continues to 11:59 p.m. Monday, with all available officers hitting the streets, according to the agency.
"As motorists travel throughout California, I want them to know the CHP will be out in force, working hard to remove impaired drivers and motorcycle riders from the roads," said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. "Our goal is for everyone to get safely to their destination."

During last year's Labor Day weekend MEP, the Riverside CHP office recorded 37 DUI arrests, compared to 44 the year before.
Statewide, around 1,500 people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the CHP.

The MEP will coincide with the Riverside County Avoid the 30 end-of- summer campaign, which began Aug. 17 and wraps up on Labor Day. During the crackdown, the 30 participating police agencies countywide set up sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols to nab DUI suspects.
During the first week of the operation, nearly 250 people were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, authorities said.
