UPDATED: Firefighter Injured in Beaumont Blaze

Update 8:30 p.m.:

One firefighter was injured Wednesday in a Beaumont fire that was sparked from a burning truck, officials report.

"One firefighter was treated at scene for a non life threatening injury,"  Riverside County Fire Department Spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said, though she did not mention the specific injury.

Hagemann said the forward spread of the fire was stopped around 4:30 p.m., and that the blaze turned out to be approximately four acres in size.

Minor damage was reported to nearby residential fences, Hagemann said.

When Patch was on scene around 4:30 p.m., crews were seen next to the Solera housing community, where the fire crept up to the surrounding fences and onto the golf course.  Crews stopped the fire from going any further.

California Highway Patrol reported that the fire started on the side of the I-10 after a truck ignited for unknown reasons, and spread up the nearby hill around 3:26 p.m.

Westbound lanes were temporarily shut down to allow for firefighting efforts and traffic was backed up for several miles.

Original story as follows:

A car fire in Beaumont ignited nearby brush and has quickly spread to an estimated 10 acres in size, officials report.

The car fire was reported at 3:26 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-10 near Oak Valley Parkway, according to California Highway Patrol incident logs.

The fire then spread up the nearby hills, CHP reports.

Riverside County Fire Department Spokeswoman Jody Hagemann says the first crews on scene reported "...approximately 5-10 acres burning in heavy fuels at a moderate rate."

Cal Fire has assigned 115 firefighters from 18 engine companies so far.

CHP says they're closing all westbound lanes in the area.  Traffic is backed up in both directions on the interstate.
