Cal Fire: Ice + Slush in Banning as Multi-Vehicle Crashes Send 19 to Hospital

The incident was first reported at 9:04 p.m. Saturday on eastbound Interstate 10 just west of 22nd Street in Banning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

There was ice and slush on Interstate 10 in Banning when 19 people were injured in a multi-vehicle series of crashes Saturday night, according to Cal Fire and the California Highway Patrol.

The incident was first reported at 9:04 p.m. Saturday on the eastbound 10 just west of 22nd Street, according to the CHP.

Road surfaces at the crash scene were "covered with approximately 1/2" of ice and slush," Jody Hagemann of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

Five engine crews and 11 ambulance crews responded, Hagemann said.

"A total of 19 patients to be transported (1 moderate, 18 minor)," Hagemann stated at 9:50 p.m. "All will be transported by ground ambulance to area hospitals."
