Cabazon Resident Wounded in Shooting Friday Night on Peach Street: No Arrests

The 27-year-old victim was hospitalized. 'The motive for the shooting is unknown, but at this time it does not appear to have been a random attack,' a sheriff's lieutenant said.

A man was wounded in a shooting Friday night in southeast Cabazon and sheriff's investigators said Sunday it did not appear to be a random attack.

The shooting was reported about 10:25 p.m. March 16 in the 15200 block of Peach Street, south of Esperanza Avenue, Lt. Ruben Navarro of the sheriff's Cabazon Station said.

Dispatchers received more than one report of the shooting, and deputies at the scene found a 27-year-old Cabazon man "with at least one gunshot wound," Navarro said.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment. His name was not released.

"Investigators responded to the scene in an effort to collect evidence and interview potential witnesses," Navarro said. "The motive for the shooting is unknown, but at this time it does not appear to have been a random attack. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing."

A man who lives in Cabazon told Banning-Beaumont Patch the victim was "gut shot with a sawed off shot gun." The man asked that his name not be published because he feared retaliation.
