UPDATE: Brush Fire North of Banning and Beaumont Declared Contained at 18 Acres

The blaze was first reported at 10:06 a.m. and firefighters initially called for aircraft, but fog over Hemet-Ryan airfield prevented the move, a Cal Fire spokeswoman said.

Updated 1:01 p.m. The brush fire was considered contained at 18 acres as of 1 p.m., a Cal Fire spokeswoman said in a phone interview.

The fire was burning light brush and grass in winds estimated at 6 miles per hour, according to Cal Fire.

Updated 11:50 a.m. The brush fire just north of Banning and Beaumont had grown to 5 to 10 acres as of 11:45 a.m., a Cal Fire spokeswoman said.

Fourteen engine crews and a total of 107 personnel were assigned to the fire, said Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County.

Commanders were still asking for aircraft to assist in fighting the fire, which was burning in fuel that included grass, Hendrickson said.

Posted 11:07 a.m. A fire broke out Thursday morning in brush near Highland Springs Avenue and Brookside Avenue just north of Beaumont, according to Cal Fire.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported as of 11 a.m., said Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County.

The blaze was first reported at 10:06 a.m. and firefighters initially called for aircraft, but fog over Hemet-Ryan airfield prevented the move, Hendrickson said.

The fire was estimated at 2 to 3 acres as of 11 a.m., Hendrickson said.

Six engine crews and about 35 personnel were at the scene, according to Cal Fire.
