UPDATE: Brush Fire in Cabazon Prompts Evacuation at Morongo Community Center

Update 8:20 p.m. A brush fire near Malki Road and Sullivan Road in Cabazon destroyed one outbuilding and four vehicles Tuesday morning, and it scorched about eight acres, a Cal Fire spokesman said in update.

Information about the cause of the fire was not available Tuesday evening.

A brush fire near Malki Road and Sullivan Road in Cabazon was declared contained to 8 acres at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday Jan. 14, according to Cal Fire.

More than 150 firefighters, one helicopter crew and two tanker planes were called out to fire, which was reported at 9:38 a.m. near Morongo Community Center, Mark Annas of Cal Fire-Riverside County said.

Posted 11:30 a.m. A brush fire broke out Tuesday near Malki Road and Sullivan Road in Cabazon, prompting evacuations of some residents and at the Morongo Community Center, Cal Fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 9:38 a.m. Jan. 14, Cal Fire reported, and smoke was visible from Interstate 10 and from Banning.

More than 150 firefighters and two tanker planes were called out, and by 10:14 a.m. the fire was estimated "holding at 10 acres," Mark Annas of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

Winds were out of the east-northeast at 12 miles per hour with 9 percent relative humidity when firefighters first arrived, according to Cal Fire.

"Riverside County Sheriff's Office issued evacuation orders and evacuated residents from the 12800 block of Malki Road and north to Sullivan Road as well as the Community Center at 13000 Malki Road," Annas said. 

Agencies on scene included the Morongo Fire Department, Riverside County Fire Department, Riverside County Fire Office Of Emergency Services, Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, and USFS – San Bernardino, Annas said.
