UPDATED: Cherry Valley Brush Fire Spreads to 100 Acres; Some Containment Reached

The fire is burning at Bogart Park, officials say.

Update Friday 10:20 p.m.:  

Riverside County fire officials now report that the Bogart Fire in Cherry Valley is 20 percent contained.

It's size is still estimated at 100 acres.

"Unless there is significant fire activity, the next update will be tomorrow, June 7 at 8:00 a.m.," Melody Hendrickson of the Riverside County Fire Department said.

Update 9 p.m.: 

A fire that broke out near a Cherry Valley park Friday afternoon spread to 100 acres and was 10 percent contained with its forward progress stopped come nightfall, authorities said.

There were no injuries reported and no structures threatened by what has been dubbed as the Bogart Fire. It was reported around 5:30 p.m. in the 9600 block of Cherry Avenue, near Bridge Street, on the south end of Bogart County Park, according to Melody Hendrickson of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Eighteen engine crews and 11 hand crews, numbering 241 fire personnel, worked to contain the fire, with the help of four air tankers and two water- dropping helicopters, she said.

The fire department reported the blaze was burning through medium to heavy brush.

There was no word on what triggered the blaze, which was reported to be 4-5 acres soon after it broke out and had spread to 50 acres by 6:47 p.m., Hendrickson said.

The fire had spread to 100 acres and was zero percent contained by 7:14 p.m., she said.

But by the next update at 7:48 p.m., crews said they had achieved 10 percent containment and the fire's forward progress had been stopped, Hendrickson said.



Update 7:30 p.m.: 

The Bogart Fire has now burned an estimated 100 acres, fire officials report.

According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the following roads are closed:
  • Cherry and Dutton
  • Avenida San Timoteo and Avenida Altura Bella
There are now 241 firefighters assigned to the incident.

Update 7 p.m.:  


A brush fire burning in Cherry Valley is now estimated to be 50 acres in size, fire officials report.

The Bogart incident is zero percent contained, according to Melody Hendrickson of the Riverside County Fire Department.

There are now 263 firefighters from 22 engine companies assigned to the blaze, according to Hendrickson.  Two helicopters and five air tankers are also being utilized.

Firefighters are responding to a fire that broke out Friday afternoon in Cherry Valley, officials tell Patch.

The fire was first reported in Bogart Park at 5:32 p.m., according to Melody Hendrickson of the Riverside County Fire Department.

As of 5:45 p.m., the fire was estimated at four to five acres in size.  It's burning in "...light grass" in "...medium to heavy brush."

Fire reports indicate 119 firefighters from seven engine companies have been assigned to the "Bogart" incident.  One helicopter and two air tankers have also been called out.
