UPDATE: Border Patrol Agent Arrested on Suspicion of Kidnapping, Sexual Battery of Undocumented Mexican Woman

Arturo H. Ascencio, 39, was arrested about 6 a.m. Thursday at his home in Hemet, according to Banning police and inmate records.

A Border Patrol agent was arrested Thursday on suspicion of kidnapping, sexual battery and false imprisonment of an undocumented Mexican woman in Banning in 2008, a Banning police sergeant said.

Police investigators and a Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement team arrested Arturo H. Ascencio, 39, about 6 a.m. Thursday at his home, 238 Berylstone Drive in Hemet, according to Banning police and inmate records.

Ascencio is a Border Patrol agent assigned to the Coachella and Imperial Valley area, police said.

The woman was 42 years old and she was an undocumented Mexican national at the time of the alleged attack, Sgt. Alex Diaz, supervisor of the Banning police Detective Bureau, said in a phone interview.

The alleged attack occurred in Banning in August 2008, police said. The victim was described by police as "a Mexican national female." She is 45 years old now, and she is in Riverside County, Diaz said.

Diaz said Thursday afternoon he could not release further details of the alleged kidnapping, sexual battery and false imprisonment.

Ascencio was held Thursday afternoon at Robert D. Presley Detention Center in Riverside. His bail was listed as $50,000.
