Bomb Squad Sent to Cathedral City Home to Investigate Possible Explosives

The team was expected to be there through Tuesday afternoon.

A Riverside County bomb squad was checking out some possible explosives or bomb-making materials at a Cathedral City mobile home park Tuesday.

Police said they were asked about 1 a.m. to check on a 22-year-old man at Sungate mobile home park the 69300 block of East Palm Canyon Drive, and arriving officers found the man acting strange, according to Cathedral City police Capt. Chuck Robinson.

"It appears there may be some homemade explosives or homemade explosive components," he said.

A Riverside County bomb squad would likely be at the home for several more hours, Robinson said about noon.

The name of the young man detained was withheld.

"We're not sure what he has, so to be safe we asked the Riverside County bomb guys to come in to evaluate the residence and components and make a decision where to proceed from there," he said.
