Body Found in Badlands Near Beaumont

Members from the Cabazon sheriff's station responded Monday to the scene where the badly decomposed body was found.

Sheriff's investigators from the Cabazon station are looking into the death of a person whose body was found in the Badlands area of the 60 freeway, a department homicide investigator said.

The body was discovered Monday afternoon by members of the California Department of Forestry-- who happened to be working on training exercises in the area of Jack Rabbit Trail, according to Sergeant Jeff Buompensiero of the Sheriff's Central Homicide unit.

It was found off the side of the road, he said.

"The body was badly decomposed but appears to be a male subject," Buompensiero said.  "The body was recovered from the scene and transported to the Coroner's Office."

The sergeant said it's not clear what caused the death, but an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
