A Banning man was identified Wednesday as the alleged gunman suspected of murder in a shooting outside a Beaumont nightclub that was followed by an officer-involved shooting early Saturday.
Demario Anton Jackson, 25, of Banning, was booked at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday on suspicion of murder at Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, according to inmate records and a city of Beaumont spokeswoman.
Early Saturday, Jackson allegedly shot and wounded Andy Albarran, 46, of Beaumont, who died later Saturday at a hospital, according to Beaumont police and Riverside County coroner's officials.
Jackson, subsequently shot and wounded by a Beaumont police officer early Saturday, had been recovering at a hospital in Moreno Valley.
About 1:50 a.m. July 16, a Beaumont police officer was checking reports of a fight in the 500 block of Beaumont Avenue when he saw Jackson shooting another man, later identified as Albarran, city of Beaumont spokeswoman Darci Mulvihill said.
"The officer ordered Jackson to drop the weapon and after he refused, the officer shot him believing he was going to continue shooting," Mulvihill said in a statement released Wednesday.
Albarran and Jackson were transported to local hospitals, where Albarran succumbed to his injuries later Saturday, according to Mulvihill.
Jackson was arrested by sheriff's Central Homicide Unit investigators early Monday at Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley, according to inmate records.
Jackson's bail was listed at $1 million. He had a court appearance scheduled Wednesday, according to inmate records.
Both shootings were being investigated by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
