Banning Man Arrested for Breaking into Car in Cathedral City

He was one of four suspects arrested for breaking into the car.

Three men and a teenager were arrested today for allegedly breaking into a car in Cathedral City.

Arrested were Jose Cabral, 19, of Banning; Eric Enriquez, 20, of Cathedral City; Osvaldo Enriquez, 18, of Cathedral City; and a 17-year-old boy from Cathedral City, according to Cathedral City police Sgt. Corwin de Veas.

Someone saw people breaking into a car near Camrose and Century Park drives shortly after midnight and alerted police. The suspects were using a flashlight and other equipment to break into the vehicle, the sergeant said.

Police arrived and surrounded the area, according to de Veas.

"Officers saw one suspect as he crawled out of the driver's-side window ... this suspect ran to the awaiting suspect car as officers pulled behind them," de Veas said.

Other officers arrived and the four suspects were arrested without incident. All of them had butterfly or other quick-release knives, de Veas said.

De Veas said two of the suspects had prior gang contacts and previous arrests on suspicion of armed robbery, assault and arson.

The adults were booked into county jail in Banning and the teenager was booked into Juvenile Hall in Indio.
