A 91-year-old woman died this week after she was apparently mauled to death by her two pit bull dogs, police announced Monday.
The incident happened Friday, at the Motel 6 on Florida Avenue, near Sanderson Avenue, according to Hemet Police Lieutenant Duane Wisehart.
The woman-- who was staying in the motel room with her son and their two dogs-- "had a great deal of trauma to her body," Wisehart said.
"It is believed the victim was mauled and killed by both dogs based upon her injuries," he said. "Pending autopsy results, at this time it appears to be a horrific accident."
That woman has been identified as Elsie Grace, from Desert Hot Springs. She was pronounced dead that the hotel by responding AMR personnel, Wisehart said.
Grace's dogs were taken by animal control to the Ramona Humane Society. The dogs remained there as of Monday afternoon, and the shelter would not disclose if they were going to be euthanized due to the ongoing investigation.
