5-Year-Old Killed in Apparent Accidental Shooting Near Perris

Riverside County Sheriff's officials report the incident happened Tuesday evening in the community of Lakeview, near Perris.

Few additional details were released Wednesday following a deadly accidental shooting of a young child near Perris.

Sheriff's officials haven't released the identity of the child, but have indicated that it was a 5-year-old boy.

Here's the full press release issued Wednesday morning by Sheriff's Deputy Albert Martinez: 

On March 4, 2014, at 5:21 P.M., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Perris Station responded to the 31000 block of Wolfskill Avenue, Nuevo, reference an accidental shooting.  Deputies arrived within minutes and located a five year old male juvenile deceased inside the residence, suffering from a gunshot wound.  Deputies secured the location and notified investigators.

Investigators from the Riverside Sheriff’s Department Perris Station and Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation.  The identification of victim is being withheld at this time.  This is an on-going investigation and no further information will be released at this time.

A 5-year-old has apparently died after suffering fatal wounds in an accidental shooting in Perris, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's Spokesman Deputy Albert Martinez says the call came in around 5:21 p.m., from a home in the 31000 block of Wolfskill Avenue, which is south of the Ramona Expressway and west of SR 79.

"Detectives are interviewing family to determine [the] cause of [the] shooting," Martinez tweeted.
