3 Arrested in PD DUI Checkpoint, Drunken Stumbler Hospitalized

The checkpoint was staffed from Friday from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday on Hwy. 111, west of San Pablo Avenue in Palm Desert.

A man was so drunk he had to be taken to a hospital for treatment before sheriff's deputies could even set up a DUI checkpoint they were staffing in Palm Desert, a sergeant said.

Sheriff's deputies preparing to staff the checkpoint in Palm Desert spotted the man staggering drunkenly around the area of Highway 111, near San Pablo Avenue Friday night, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Dave Adams said.

Deputies then arrested two suspected DUI drivers, another motorist for alleged heroin possession and five others for alleged license violations.

The checkpoint was staffed Friday from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Deputies conducted 11 field sobriety tests; they screened 390 vehicles -- all of those that passed through the checkpoint -- the sergeant said.

Three vehicles were also impounded, Adams said.

Consider dropping collision and/or comprehensive coverages on older cars. Search online for "Clearance Auto" If your car is worth less than 10 times the premium, purchasing the coverage may not be cost effective.

All repressive ends start as "public safety" measures, and these checkpoint liberty invasions are as ominous as anything that has oppressed mankind. The path to tyranny starts with one step at a time.

michael smith and michael kennedy always post comments regarding the two subjects my grandfather told me not to debate if you want to keep the peace...politics and religion!

Politics and religion are usually irritating topics because the people who discuss them are almost always partisan to some shallow dogma or another. On the rare occasions that these topics are discussed openly and objectively, however, they can be fascinating and enlightening. MK's comment above is non-partisan and intelligent. He's practicing the eternal vigilance so wisely recommended by the founders.
