15-Year-old Boy Accused of Brutal Attack, Dousing Bleach on Elderly Woman

Hemet police reached out to the public for help in solving this case on Saturday. Meanwhile, the woman remains in the ICU.

A senior Hemet woman who reportedly was tied up and doused with bleach during a brutal burglary involving a 15-year-old boy inside her home showed stable life signs today, a police spokesman said.

But the victim, who police believed was 87, was listed in critical condition at the hospital where she was taken following the predawn break-in Thursday by two juveniles, Hemet police Lt. Dean Evans said.

Dispatchers received a call at 3 a.m. about a burglary at the Camelot Independent Living Facility at 800 West Oakland Avenue, Evans said.

The victim awoke to find the youthful suspects in her home, one of whom beat her. The suspects initially evaded capture but six hours after the attack, police arrested a 15-year-old boy following a struggle with officers in the 1000 block of State Street.

The boy, whose name was not disclosed because of his age, could face charges of first degree burglary, torture, elder abuse and mayhem, in addition to attempted murder. He remained in custody Saturday at a juvenile hall facility in French Valley, Evans said.
