11 Warrant Arrests, 16 Citations During Banning Checkpoint

The checkpoint was staged from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, in the 1600 block of West Ramsey Street, a police lieutenant said.

Banning police made 11 misdemeanor warrant arrests and cited six drivers for license-related infractions during a checkpoint staged Sunday night on West Ramsey Street.

More than 400 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which was staged from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, in the 1600 block of West Ramsey, Banning police Lt. Phil Holder said.

It was billed as an effort to crack down on impaired and unlicensed drivers, but only one driver was field-tested for sobriety and no DUI arrests were made.

Officers wrote 10 traffic citations, cited five drivers for suspended licenses, and cited one driver for having no license, Holder said.

Five vehicles were impounded and towed.
