What If GOP Lawmakers in Washington Really Don't Care About Us?

It's hard to understand the GOP's election-year strategy, which suggests it's good politics to oppose equal pay for women, more health care, immigration reform and unemployment insurance for millions of Americans.

They chafe at being called mean-spirited, but Congressional Republicans are doing little to dissuade their critics of the notion that the Grand Ole' Party agrees with Mitt Romney that there's no sense in courting the "47 percent."

In fact, at a time when many observers expected national Republicans would be learning from the results of the 2012 election and reaching out to women, minorities and other groups traditionally underrepresented, the party appears to have dug in its heels, dogmatically opposing anything that threatens to challenge the right wing's Victorian-style social and economic dogma.

Many Republican members of the House are carefully watching polls and calculating that the few voters who'll actually turn out in their meticulously gerrymandered districts will vote for any representative who has diligently fought the President, no matter how many Americans are hurt by the collateral damage.
