Brian Nestande’s Voting Record Highlights His Irrelevancy

Nestande's voting record shows pattern of obstructionism and failure. Out-of-touch Assemblyman votes party-line against Women, Families, & Veterans.

It is rare that voters are subjected to a politician as stubbornly partisan and obstructionist as Assemblyman Brian Nestande. Currently running against Mark Orozco for the open 42nd Assembly District, Nestande has left a trail of ineffective votes against almost every issue about which voters in the district actually care. Even more distressing than his apparent inability to relate to his co-workers, is Nestande’s lack of connection with the needs of the working families who make up the bulk of his constituents. Nestande’s record on a number of key bills, shows almost no correlation to the needs of the voters he represents but instead reads like a partisan playbook.

In fact, Brian Nestande’s votes don’t even match up with his own stated objectives. For example, during one of his rare public appearances in the current campaign, Nestande indicated that one of his top priorities was to reform the state tax code. Ironically, he had a chance to work on just that issue, but instead didn’t even bother to show up for the vote on the resulting bill.

In addition to his complete failure to have any impact on much needed state budget reforms, Nestande has made every effort to roadblock critical legislation designed to protect our most vulnerable citizens.

For example, Brian Nestande:*

  • Voted against improving a woman's access to contraceptives!
  • Voted to allow corporations to discriminate against certain employees!
  • Voted to deny pregnant women insurance coverage!
  • Voted to allow toxic chemicals in infant products!
  • Voted to deny agricultural workers overtime pay!
  • Voted to deny our veterans many of the opportunities they have earned!

The list goes on, but the pattern is clear. Given Nestande’s complete lack of concern for the very real needs of the people he is sworn to represent, its not surprising that he was given a failing 18% score on environmental issues. Its time to replace our failed representation with real leadership. Its time to move past party politics and focus on citizenship! This election offers voters a chance to take charge of their representation and to once again have a voice in Sacramento.
