Former Banning City Council member John Machisic died earlier this week, Mayor Debbie Franklin said Tuesday evening. Machisic was 82.
Machisic served 10 years on the Banning council. He decided not to run for re-election in November 2012.
"John was a true public servant and a gentleman who cared about the people of our community and our city as a whole," Franklin said. "He will be greatly missed by many."
Machisic also served on the Banning Unified School District board, and he was a member of the Sun Lakes board of directors. He was active with the San Gorgonio Pass Rotary Club.
He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and USC.
Funeral arrangements had not been announced as of Tuesday evening.
