Man Found Shot Dead in Car Near Perris ID'd as Hemet Resident

A man found fatally shot in a car in a rural area west of Perris was identified this week as a 39-year-old Hemet resident.

The body of Luis Hernandez was found around 5 p.m. Tuesday in the 20000 block of Scheesley Street, near Stephanie Street, in the unincorporated community of Good Hope, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies were called to the area to investigate reports of an unconscious man in a vehicle, sheriff's Sgt. Ray Huskey said.

He said the victim had been shot to death, but it was not immediately known how long he had been at that location.

"This was not some random killing," Huskey told City News Service Wednesday, indicating that a possible suspect had been identified but was not yet in custody.
