Elderly Woman Dies in Banning Crash

An Arizona woman died Wednesday following a crash in Banning near the local high school, the coroner's office reports.

71-year-old Jacqueline Clark died about an hour after a crash in the intersection of Wesley Street and S. San Gorgonio Avenue, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Office.

Clark was a passenger in a sedan which was broadsided by an SUV, according to the office.

"The collision occurred as a 1997 Honda Accord was exiting from the KOA campground, located at 1455 South San Gorgonio Avenue, onto Wesley Street," the Banning Police Department reported.  "The Honda was struck by a 2001 Ford Expedition traveling north on San Gorgonio Avenue."

According to police reports, the people inside the Expedition SUV were not hurt, however both the Honda's driver and passenger-- Clark-- were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

Both the unidentified driver and Clark were treated at the scene and taken to DRMC, but Clark succumbed to her injuries while in the ambulance, according to Banning police.

"The driver was treated in the emergency room and then later released," police said.

Banning police will be conducting a traffic investigation to determine the factors that led to the crash, they said.
