Coroner: Man Dies After Pulling Over on I-10, Getting Struck by Vehicle

A Joshua Tree man has succumbed to his injuries after he was struck by his own vehicle on Interstate 10 when he pulled over and was standing outside his truck, coroner's officials reported Wednesday.

"His vehicle was struck by another pick-up, causing his own truck to strike him," the Riverside County Coroner's Office reported.

The incident happened on Feb. 21, on eastbound I-10, just west of State Route 62, according to a coroner's report.  Since then, 23-year-old Gavin Alexander has been hospitalized at Desert Regional Medical Center.

Alexander had "pulled over and exited his vehicle for unknown reasons," just before he was struck, officials said.

He died Tuesday morning.
