Storm Expected to Hit the Area Through Tonight

A storm system that was watched for over 10 days will hit the area later on this evening and through tonight, bringing rain and thunderstorms in the region.

Some areas have had lighter showers this morning, other areas remaining dry. The air is warm and muggy outside now, almost like a day in the Eastern U.S. This is due to a southerly wind ahead of the storm system, showing what type of system this is.

The system is tropical in nature, meaning snow levels with the initial front will be over 8,000 feet, posing no risk of snow in many communities.  Despite the lack of snow, communities will have to deal with the heavy rains.

I've issued a Flood Advisory at Southern California Weather Authority, which does cover the Banning Pass locations as well.  An easy 1/2 inch of rain within a six-hour period will bring minor stream flooding and hydroplane hazards on the roadways.

In addition to the rain, thunderstorms are a good possibility with this system later on and into some of tonight as the upper level dynamics comes into the area. Warm air at 10,000 feet will contribute to the instability regardless of the lack of colder air in the mid-levels.

There is a good chance I will need a Thunderstorm Watch in the area by the evening at least and this is being monitored very carefully.
