Newt Deserves Another Look
A Redlands Tea Party Patriot, while traveling through Iowa after leaving the Army, decides to give Newt Gingrich a second look after a campaign stop at Iowa State University.
While visiting family in Des Moines, I traveled to nearby Iowa State University in Ames to see Newt Gingrich during his campaign stop.
I am a political junkie and I had just one weekend in Iowa. Newt was the only candidate within driving distance on Friday.
I have followed Newt for years. I admired his forceful leadership as the US House speaker after the 1994 Republican revolution. I loved his “Contract with America” then as well as his new, “21st Century Contract with America,” now.

But Newt’s repeated personal problems have been a real turn-off as a Republican. I don’t expect angels in the Oval Office, but I do expect our presidents to behave with the dignity of a Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan or a George W. Bush.
The last person I want in the White House is another Bill Clinton, whose presidency was centered on his penis. Clinton’s repeated moral failures are a resume enhancement in the Democratic Party, but it’s a disqualifier in the Republican Party -- as it should be.

Newt has his baggage. But I’m willing to overlook those if he focuses on conservative solutions this country needs.
I’m also willing to overlook his falling for the global warming fraud. He’s not the only Republican to go over to the dark side on that issue, but as long as he repents, he could reclaim me as a fan.
(I was greatly impressed by his answers to my questions about significant issues affecting our military. I’m saving that for another blog).
Newt is clearly the most profound debater on the Republican stage. He is even more impressive in person. His profound understanding of the challenges facing our county exceeds any other politician in America. Period.
I love Michele Bachmann because she is the next Ronald Reagan. She is the constitutional conservative who will work tirelessly the solutions our country desperately needs. If she’s still in the race in June, I will help campaign for her if the Republican nomination when it reaches California.
But Newt deserves a second look as a candidate. I think Newt would win over voters after he destroys Obama on the presidential debate stage.
