WEATHER UPDATE: Below Freezing Temps Expected Overnight

Snow showers were expected to continue above 2,000 feet elevation through 8:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Below freezing temperatures were forecast Saturday night for Banning and Beaumont, as the tailing end of a frigid winter storm swept through the San Gorgonio Pass.

Snow showers were expected to continue above 2,000 feet elevation through 8:30 p.m. in mountains of Riverside and San Bernardino counties, and the National Weather Service warned that "travel could be impacted on Interstate 10 through the Banning Pass."

Brief, heavy snow was possible, with local snowfall amounts of up to 1 inch per hour possible, the Weather Service advised.

Below 2,000 feet scattered light showers were expected to continue to move in from the northwest at 20 miles per hour, the Weather Service stated in a short-term forecast.

An isolate thunderstorm with small hail was possible "especially in the area east of Banning to Cabazon through 8:30 p.m.," forecasters said.

Overnight lows around 27 degrees were expected in Banning and Beaumont, according to the Weather Service.
