The snow was falling steadily Friday afternoon in Beaumont, and weather forecasters say that this storm is here to stay through the night.
After a morning of mixed winter weather with rain, hail and snow falling in the Banning and Beaumont areas, the snow started to stick around noon Friday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the area until 3 a.m. Saturday.
"Snow levels will fall from around 3,500 feet [Friday] afternoon to between 2,000 and 2,500 feet [Friday] Evening," an alert from the NWS states.
The heaviest snow was expected in the late afternoon and early evening.
The following NWS forecast was as of 12:45 p.m. Friday for Beaumont:
- Friday afternoon: Snow showers, possibly mixed with rain. Some thunder is also possible. Snow level 2700 feet. High near 44. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
- Friday night: Snow showers, mainly before 10pm. Low around 32. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
- Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon.
The following NWS forecast was as of 12:45 p.m. Friday for Banning:
- Friday afternoon: Snow showers. High near 40. West wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
- Friday night: Snow showers, mainly before 10pm. Low around 33. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
- Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 44. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
