Police: Man Jumps in Front of Big Rig on 60 Freeway Near Badlands

What was originally thought to be an accident is now being ruled as suicide, officials tell Patch.

A deadly crash on the 60 freeway just outside the Badlands was most likely a suicide, sheriff's officials tell Patch.

Fire officials reported the "vehicle versus pedestrian" crash around 7:30 p.m. Monday on the westbound lanes of the 60 freeway at Theodore Street in Moreno Valley.

According to coroner's reports, a 46-year-old Homeland man was struck by a semi-tractor trailer, and he died at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire responded to the crash which had slowed traffic in the area for some time, according to reports.

Preliminary reports had also indicated that the man may have been walking nearby when he was hit, but CHP later turned the investigation over to the sheriff's department when the man's scooter and a note were found nearby, according to Sheriff's Corporal Angel Ramos.

What about the driver of the 18-wheeler? He has to live with this for the rest of his life. If you want to do yourself in, you should not involve an innocent person in it.

Citizen, I had thought of that, too. This is just, like train engineers who end up running over suicidal people. Drivers of these vehicles suffer tremendously.

I know someone that has hit a suicidal person on the 10frwy with their 18 wheeler... I also know a couple of engineers who work for BNSF and have killed someone with the train... It is something they live with the rest of their lives and suffer because of the other person’s selfishness and disregard for others... sadly... this is the world we live in...But it is not ok.

I agree with you totally. I'm still trying to figure out why my Mom, Dad, and 2 Big Brothers committed suicide. It has left me speechlessa and withdrawn from everyone and everything.

my buddy was the driver behind the big rig.. my condolences to the guy who was killed, but if he wanted to take his own life he should have done it with out involving other peoples lives. my poor buddy is going through a tough time.. having nightmares of the incident, not being able to eat, cant even drive a regular car. went as far as getting psychiatric help due to this. to many peoples lives were affected. just sad..
