Police: Man Jumps in Front of Big Rig on 60 Freeway Near Badlands

What was originally thought to be an accident is now being ruled as suicide, officials tell Patch.

A deadly crash on the 60 freeway just outside the Badlands was most likely a suicide, sheriff's officials tell Patch.

Fire officials reported the "vehicle versus pedestrian" crash around 7:30 p.m. Monday on the westbound lanes of the 60 freeway at Theodore Street in Moreno Valley.

According to coroner's reports, a 46-year-old Homeland man was struck by a semi-tractor trailer, and he died at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire responded to the crash which had slowed traffic in the area for some time, according to reports.

Preliminary reports had also indicated that the man may have been walking nearby when he was hit, but CHP later turned the investigation over to the sheriff's department when the man's scooter and a note were found nearby, according to Sheriff's Corporal Angel Ramos.
