Interstate 10 Closures in Banning Canceled

Caltrans says the contractor decided to cancel the work at the last minute.

Major road work planned for the Interstate 10 thoroughfare between Banning and Palm Springs has been canceled, a Caltrans official says.

Caltrans spokeswoman Michelle Profant tells Banning-Beaumont Patch that the contractor who was supposed to do paving work on all four lanes of the freeway notified them at the last minute of the cancellation.

"The work was cancelled because the contractor needed to keep his staff on another job they are working," she explained.

The closures, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. every night this week were to affect both westbound and eastbound traffic between Highway 111 and Pennsylvania Ave., according to a Caltrans commuter alert.

Monday night's work did not happen due to the last minute change of plans, nor will it happen any other night this week.
