Please accept my apologies. Who would have thought that a short 25 bulb string of LED pineapple lights would cause such a major blackout in the Pass community? The minute I plugged those lights in and heard the "POP", I knew that it was not going to be a good day. It took me over two hours to find the lone culprit bulb. Once I replaced the bulb at about 3:00 every thing worked great. Have a very Merry Christmas to everyone, Peace on Earth, and Good Will spread to all of our brothers and sisters.
I was in Dollar Tree near the Wal-Mart Super Center in Beaumont when the power went off. I felt sorry for the poor manager of the store who had to tell a store full of customers he couldn't take their business while the power was off. As I left the center, I could see the smoke from the fire clearly to the West. However, when I read the article about the power outage in the Patch that evening, it said the problem was over by Banning Airport. That doesn't seem right, because Banning Airport is to the East of Beaumont. Note to Dave Castaldo: Nice of you to admit responsibility, but don't you already cause enough trouble in Beaumont without spreading your wings to cause the power to go out in major parts of Beaumont, Banning and Cabazon. Thanks for sparing White Water and Cherry Valley.
A number of years ago when my dad still lived in our old family home out in the country east of Calexico, I came down one winter evening to visit. This was more than 30 years ago, and I had driven from my home in Gardena the five hours or so to Calexico. Dad wasn't home, but I had a key and went inside. I noticed he had just gotten his first microwave. I was considering getting one myself, but had never used one. I looked for something to heat up. My dad lived alone, as he still does, and ate most of his meals in town, as he still does, so all I could find was some peanuts. I put some in a cup, put the cup in the microwave, pushed on, and everything went dark. By that, I mean pitch black, as I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. I looked out the window to see the town of Calexico in the distance, and it, too, was pitch black. I looked south for Mexicali, the Mexican town just across the border from Calexico, and it was pitch black, too. "Oh, my goodness," I exclaimed. "I blew the power to all of Southern California." It turned out it was a major blackout, of the regional variety, that happened the moment I pushed the "on" button the first time I ever tried to turn on a microwave.
How hard is it to walk with the perpetual stick up your bum? You are one of the most judgmental people. Funny story Charles. (you should end it....With that one push of the button I realized the power I held LOL for the grand kids when you have them)
Pretty sad that the store manager couldn't have gotten out a piece of paper and a pen/pencil, and figured out his customers' totals by hand. Hello? Each and every item is 1 dollar! And this is the manager? We have now raised a generation of people who can't function without electronic crutches, and they are actually in management positions. That's scary. Adding up price totals, adding the tax, making change...it really isn't rocket science. It isn't even rock science. But it obviously is way over the heads of many people now. ...
I think this was a matter more of company policy of not doing business when there is no electricity than the manager or his staff's inability to do math and figure out people's bills, especially at a Dollar Tree where everything is the same price. At least that is what I hope is the case. As it stood, I was the only happy customer to get what I wanted after the power went off. I wasn't there to purchase something; I was there to exchange five things we had bought but as it turned out didn't want. They don't do refunds at Dollar Tree, just one-for-one exchanges. I had five items in my cart and in a bag I had the five items I wanted to exchange. After the store manager announced that the store could do no business with the power off, I asked if I could do my exchanges. I gave the clerk the five things I wanted to return, she put the things I wanted to have back into my bag and I left the store happy. Anyway, I would like to know what caused the outage. Was it the fire west of Beaumont or an incident near Banning Airport east of Beaumont? Or both?
The store registers are electronic. What was the manager suppose to do with the money? Stuff in his shirt? Every single penny must be accounted for, and the totals must agree with the register tape. This is not rocket science. It's common sense. @Charles, love your story!
I find it interesting the RG was all over the State of the City luncheon but not interested in…Read More printing the questions and issues raised by the Mayor's unsubstantiated claims. We should stop paying any attention to the RG if they aren't interested in what's really happening in Beaumont. I don't subscribe to the RG but it is still delivered to my house every week. Does anyone know how to stop the delivery? I could just pick it up each week and throw it in the trash but then their circulation won't be accurately represented to their advertisers. I'm going to start asking local business to stop advertising in the RG.
UPDATE on CV (nickname)...a tumor protruding from his right eye was removed yesterday - he now can…Read More close the eye completely which, coupled with a fly mask, will keep the flies from laying eggs in his eye (a very nasty thing indeed). He has settled in with a gentle geriatric horse for a companion and is eating well (his weight was not an issue before - he obviously was fed decently). His club hoof causes him quite a lot of discomfort, but he manages to hobble around. A visit from the farrier is nextin line, to see if his discomfort can be aleviated. I don't believe he will ever be a riding horse, but he casts a nice shadow and is gentle and kind to be around. There is a peacefulness that eminates from his very being...
Good news. My post from 6/17 has reappeared but my post from this morning (6/18) hasn't surfaced…Read More yet.
I don't have a clue as to what is going on!
Niki- yes the plans have been updated to allow Banning and Yucaipa to share in the use of the new…Read More ponds. It is an inter-agency plan that is beneficial to everyone. Why you consider having other entities share this project, which bonds us all together: they are paying to help build the new area so we, as ratepayers aren't hit with the whole bill, and we are going to finally get some recycled water into use from Yucaipa, Banning gets new wells, and no matter what- we have ultimate control over the use at all times- how that is a horror story I can't figure out. These plans were in the works for years, it was no secret. Its now being finalized by the board- as the details are now ironed out. The only horror story I see happening is how Beaumont refuses to make an agreement with the district to utilize their recycled water- and its not all the water district's fault like you think. Beaumont can't build unless they find some new sources of water. One of the reasons they pulled out is once they update their wastewater facility- they don't plan on wasting that recycled water just on landscaping . They are going to dump it into the basin itself for the water credit. Beaumont residents have no clue that their drinking water will eventually be more wastewater than water coming down the mountain. Sorry- but I think Fraser is doing a great job. If he hadn't got in there, the district would belong to Beaumont, who would take all the water they want regardless of impact studies, and siphon off all the money for their own uses. Guess you missed their lawsuit in the courts- the courts laughed them out. Beaumont is broke. The water district is financially sound.
Ben, it is unfortunate you are the victim of such serious misinformation. I thought I knew everyone…Read More at last night's BCVWD meeting. Who were you?
I'm curious, Niki, what misinformation are you speaking of concerning Ben's comment? He appears to…Read More be stating information that I've read about also. Beaumont did sue to try and take over the water district, they did get a cease and desist order to stop dumping their wastewater into the aquifer, and have pulled out of all negotiations with the district to supply them with recycled water. The district has made the arrangements instead with Yucaipa to take their water, with the hopes that someday Beaumont will come around. All these things are in agendas and downloads available to the public, which part are you disputing?
