How nice.....that one doesn't need to worry about drinking and driving...or killing someone while drunk
rubberband December 04, 2013 at 11:12 AM
Here's a thought: If you are gonna drink, stay home...don't drive...LIKE EVER...and if you cannot seem to STOP drinking or are an abusive, insane a-hole when you DO drink, try NOT drinking. I am pretty sure that most people that get pulled over and ARRESTED for DUI are um, showing signs, provable signs of being intoxicated/affected.....with the average cost of a DUI charge being very likely into the 7 to 10 grand range to deal with (car getting impounded, legal fees and penalties, ad nausea um) To say nothing about YOU COULD F'IN KILL SOMEONE it's probably a better idea to do your partyin' at home and then STAY THERE.

Not hard to find a designated driver if it comes to that. Better not ever put me on a jury for a DUI case.
rubberband December 04, 2013 at 11:35 PM
Mr. Alex Cuttleworth,You are EXACTLY who I'd put in a jury on a DUI case....Getting busted for a DUI...it's such a preventable thing. Wanna drink/party, cool...just stay put or have a driver...this doesn't seem complicated to me.

Maybe rational thinking is asking too much from a drunk, Rb. I have zero tolerance for anyone who drinks and drives. However, it worries me that anyone, faced with a DUI, is given a gentle tap on the wrist and let go. A drunk is a drunk. There is no justification for that. What defense could an attorney present?
rubberband December 07, 2013 at 11:29 AM
I'd agree...and rational thought isn't a realistic thing to ask of something with a drinking problem...years ago we had a situation here...kid of "important man about town" (brown nosed rich guy hooked in with politics) and this "kid" never had consequences for anything. We'd watch him get out of everything he ever did that normal folks would pay for and hopefully LEARN something....his rich crony pal having dad actually hobbled him....not letting children understand and be held in a state of accountability is what helps the sorta thing you are talking about happen. My dad was a drunk. I know this one inside and out...and to answer "What defense could an attorney present?"...I'd hafta guess: "Your Honor, my client was unjustly accused of driving under the influence...he had a really hard life/ a bad day/just got fired/his wife is mean/it was only a couple of beers to take the edge off/he is super sorry..."...Most likely you can PAY a certain amount and just be done with it.

In other words, Rb, a sob story. Wonder how that sets with a jury trial. I'm really sorry about your Dad. That's extra tough on a kid, regardless of age. I'm a non-drinker, which probably slants my view. My body doesn't tolerate any alcohol so it's best to stay away from it. I completely agree with you concerning consequences. before you jump to conclusions about drinking and driving...please take into consideration some people are better than others with taking control of their senses while inebriated. take me for example -i'm a big boy and am in good control of a car while legally drunk. it hardly seems fair that i should be slapped with a dui. iow there needs to be exceptions
rubberband December 08, 2013 at 03:05 PM
DesertPatriot: You might have that "Ozzy Osborne" gene. I swear it's a real thing; look it up. I would swear my siblings have this trait. Maybe you are blessed or some kind of super-alcohol-mutant hybrid thing. Very good idea here...We need a bit of your DNA to clone more...everyone I ever knew that got a DUI charge was fully deserving of it. I promise not to report you for a DUI if I get to video your sobriety test....... :)

rbm, i knew i was going to get this sorta response but it's true, i'm in full control of my body and senses when legally drunk. it's a mistake to paint people who drink and drive with a broad brush. and i'd be willing to pay good money to take a 'special' driving test for imbibers to prove it. and i might add i watch cops and am convinced certain people should not drink...period

I wasn't joking, dude...only a bit anyway...My Uncle Jerry could do EVERYTHING better "legally drunk"...plus he was a nicer person buzzed, too. I think the alcohol over-corrected the other direction and made him clear and straight thinking in some way...Sober he was a mess. Maybe you can get a special permit to drive under the influence. The only things I do better buzzed are: Play pool, bowl, and darts. Scary thing, buzzed dart playing, I suppose, but it's true.
desertpatriot December 08, 2013 at 05:32 PM
just be careful where ya throwing those projectiles!
rubberband December 09, 2013 at 10:43 AM
O Jesus. An old friend truly believed he was the dart champ and guess who got a English regulation dart stuck to the barrel in the a$$ cheek?...yep, yours truly... He was NOT a gifted buzzed dart player. I have never really believed that was an accident....Right thru the Levi's 501's circa late 1980's. Gary- if I ever run into you again, I got something for ya...(Was pointed out to me by my sister, that I should mention I SUCK at plastering walls while um, plastered. It was very creative and apparently I decided to make a topography map of South America on her bedroom wall. Not helpful.
