Winners Announced in Beaumont-Cherry Valley 5th Annual Fishing Derby

More than 300 children took part in the derby on Saturday April 14 at the Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District reclamation ponds, according to the rec and park district.

The Beaumont-Cherry Valley Recreation and Park District on Tuesday announced the winners in its 5th Annual Fishing Derby held Saturday April 14.

More than 300 children took part in the morning derby at the Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District reclamation ponds, according to the rec and park district.

The Grand Prize winner for the heaviest fish over all was Erick Cress, age 11, with a 4.85-pound trout, Diane Gonzalez of the rec and park district said. Erick received a Grand Prize trophy and a bike donated by the Beaumont Lions Club, Gonzalez said.

Winners Age 6 and Under

1st Place: Alexa Jennings age 5

2nd Place: Gabriel Marques age 6

3rd Place: Cheyanna Werley age 3

Winners Ages 7 to 10

1st Place: Joshua Clark age 7

2nd Place: Mikie Marquez age 9

3rd Place: Abrey Gaines age 8

Winners Ages 11 to 14

1st Place: Alisia Durazo age 11

2nd Place: Breanna Murguia age 13

3rd Place: Christian Alvaraz age 13

All winners received a trophy and a Frugo's gift certificate. Those who finished in 1st Place also received a T-shirt from Frugo's, Gonzalez said.

More than 100 people took part in the afternoon derby for ages 15 and up, Gonzalez said. The winner was Lawrence Salazar with a 3.42-pound trout. He received a $50 gift card donated by Bass Pro Shop.
