Super Bowl Sunday 2012 TV Options

Just in case you haven't checked the listings, here is some of what you can expect before the 46th Super Bowl kicks off around 3:30 p.m. Pacific on NBC. You have choices.

Super Bowl XLVI is scheduled to kickoff shortly after 3:30 p.m. Pacific.

Whether you care what happens between the New York Giants and New England Patriots - a rematch of the 2008 Super Bowl - you'll have plenty to watch before the big game, from soccer and gospel to puppies and lingerie football.

Here are some of the offerings on tap for Super Bowl Sunday:

7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pacific on ESPN - Sunday NFL Countdown: Ready for some overkill? For four hours, Chris Berman, Tom Jackson, Cris Carter, Mike Ditka and company will discuss the Giants and Patriots, previous Super Bowls, and more than you need to know about the hype.

7:30 a.m. Pacific on FOX - Chelsea FC vs Manchester United: Billed as an effort to reach more soccer fans, Fox intends to broadcast this match live from England nationwide in the U.S.

9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Pacific on NBC - Road to the Super Bowl: NFL Films presents sights and sounds of the 2011 National Football League season. If you don't know how the Giants and Patriots made it to the 46th Super Bowl, this should be a good refresher.

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pacific on NBC - Super Bowl XLVI Pregame: Billed as five hours of analysis, highlights and storylines, this will be your opportunity to grill as many as ribs as you need, and deep-fry a turkey if you want. Bob Costas is scheduled to host.

12 noon to 1 p.m. Pacific on FOX - Super Bowl Gospel Celebration: "Bringing Gospel to the Biggest Game on Earth," live from Indianapolis. The event is in its thirteenth year, and promoters say it's sanctioned by the NFL.

12 noon to 2 p.m. Pacific on Animal Planet - Puppy Bowl VIII: This two-hour show is scheduled to air before the Super Bowl and repeat numerous times, through the big game and beyond. Puppies play football and humans referee. Can you say 'cute attack'?

1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pacific on MTV2 - Lingerie Bowl IX: Billed as a rematch, "the defending champion Los Angeles Temptation will battle the Philadelphia Passion . . . a repeat of last year's Lingerie Bowl where the Temptation edged the Passion in a 26-25 thriller."

3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Pacific on NBC - Super Bowl XLVI: Kickoff is scheduled just after 3:30 p.m. Pacific, and the game will be over close to 7 p.m. Tom Brady and Eli Manning in the real rematch, live from Indianapolis.
