Gas Prices Continue to Rise

The average price in Riverside and San Bernardino counties has increased 16.4 cents over the past 22 days.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Inland Empire rose today for the 21st time in 22 days, increasing three-tenths of a cent to $3.819.

The average price in Riverside and San Bernardino counties has increased 16.4 cents over the past 22 days, including 1 cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 2.8 cents more than one week ago, 11.3 greater than one month ago and 2.5 cents above what it was one year ago.

The average price rose for 17 consecutive days, fell one-tenth of a cent on Monday, then resumed increasing on Tuesday.

"Oil prices are still in the $85-$90 a barrel range and providing some upward pressure to gas prices," said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

"However, other states have seen much larger price increases over the past month. Drivers in Chicago are now paying $3.98 on average, higher than any Southland area, while New York City drivers are paying $3.91 on average and Detroit gas is averaging $3.87."
