Delayed Employment Report Has Mixed News for Riverside County

Riverside County has lost 400 jobs since the beginning of the year, but 15,000 people have left the workforce, so the unemployment rate has fallen from 11.5 percent to 10.1 percent.

California's monthly employment report, delayed for two months by the federal government shutdown, showed the unemployment rate in Riverside County declined from 10.8 percent in August to 10.1 percent in October, but fewer people were working than at the beginning of the year.

The report from the Employment Development Department on Friday showed that 842,200 were employed in the county in October. That was 400 less than in January, but 15,000 have left the workforce, causing the unemployment rate to decline from 11.5 percent at the beginning of the year.

Riverside County's unemployment rate is higher than for California as a whole, which was 8.7 percent in October, down from 8.9 percent in August.
