Cabazon Water Seeks New Director, Mourns Loss of Carola Baer

The recent death of former director Carola Baer has created a vacancy on the five-member board.

The following article was submitted for publication on behalf of the Cabazon Water District:

Residents can serve their community and help assure a plentiful and affordable supply of water by applying for a seat on Cabazon Water District’s board of directors.

The recent death of former director Carola Baer has created a vacancy on the five-member board.

“Carola was dedicated to the future of Cabazon and to seeing our hometown grow and prosper,” said Board Vice President Kerri Mariner. “Cabazon has lost a true champion of this community and a dedicated public servant.”

Mrs. Baer joined the Cabazon Water District’s board of directors in January, 2012. She was appointed to replace former director Todd Sloan, who resigned for health reasons.

Baer, a longtime Cabazon resident, died on May 3. She served on the District’s personnel committee and also worked previously as a food and beverage manager at the Silent Valley Club, a family camping resort which is located between Banning and Idyllwild in the San Jacinto Mountains.

Cabazon Water hopes to appoint a new director at the June 17 board meeting after interviewing applicants, said General Manager Calvin Louie. The new board member will serve the remaining portion of Baer’s term, which ends in December.

The board meeting begins at 6 p.m. at District headquarters, 50256 Main St. Applicants must submit a letter of interest and a resume to Cabazon Water by June 10. Board members must be at least 18 years old and live in Cabazon.

In November, three seats are up for election on Cabazon Water District’s board of directors, including the new appointee’s seat, formerly held by Baer. The other two seats up for election in November are held by Board President R.D. Cash and Director Mia Affsa.

Directors receive a maximum stipend of $100-a-day up for a maximum of six days each month for attending water board meetings and performing official duties.

Cabazon Water District's address is: 50256 Main Street, P.O. Box 297 Cabazon, CA 92230.  Their phone number is (951) 849-4442.
