San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital Construction Update

The ICU and emergency department is 95 percent complete, according to officials.

San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital hosted its latest construction tour on Aug. 15, which found the new emergency department and intensive care unit building to be 95 percent complete, according to Randy Craig, president of ProWest Constructors.

Pending a successful licensing survey, the units should be able to see patients as early as April 2013.

Designs for the Patient Care Building have been completed and the permit is under review with the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, according to Clark Pangilinan, project manager for architectural and engineering design firm HDR. Approval is expected in early 2013 and construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2013 and run be finished in 2017,

Work on both the outside and inside of the building is almost finished, with cabinetry nearing completion, said hospital spokeswoman Molly Ellis in a statement. The southeast courtyard is finished. The loading dock, materials management and office remodels will go to bid as one project in January of 2013.

"As part of the entire project, the kitchen remodel is 12 percent complete, and will be done in five stages," Ellis said. "This allows for San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital’s Dietary Department to continue providing food for patients."

Construction tours of the new ED / ICU building will continue through the end of the year and are held at 4 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month.
