Beaumont Police Department to Hold Jail-A-Thon Fundraiser

To take part in the Jail-A-Thon, residents can contact the Beaumont Police Department to complete an "arrest warrant" form for a co-worker, family member, boss, or friend.

Submitted by the City of Beaumont

On Wednesday, August 29, 2012, the Beaumont Police Department will hold its inaugural Jail-A-Thon fundraiser to benefit the Police Explorers and Adopt-A-Cop program. The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Beaumont Civic Center, located at 550 E. 6th Street.

To take part in the Jail-A-Thon, residents can contact the Beaumont Police Department to complete an “arrest warrant” form for a co-worker, family member, boss, or friend. Arrest warrants are on a first-come first-served basis and cost $100. Family members and co-workers are encouraged to pool their money to have an arrest warrant issued for a boss or loved one. The deadline for completing an arrest warrant is Friday, August 17th.

On the day of the Jail-A-Thon, Beaumont officers will “execute” an “arrest” at a home or business and take the “arrestee” to a makeshift jail at the Civic Center. Once there, the arrestee will be brought in front of the “Judge” for crimes ranging from “leaving the toilet seat up” to “not returning phone calls.”

Participants will be allowed a phone call to make “bail,” or receive credit for time served. They will only be “detained” for a short period, such as lunchtime, and not for the duration of the day. There will be photo opportunities available and a Citizen Volunteer will drive residents back to work or home. This event will be conducted in good fun and lightheartedness.

To fill out an arrest warrant form or for more information about the event, please contact Officer Toms or Sergeant Ellsworth at (951) 769-8500.
