Sheriff's Deputy Shoots, Kills Man in Hemet Chase

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was declared dead at the scene.

A driver who led authorities on an approximately four- minute chase after they tried to pull him over for a traffic violation was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Hemet Wednesday, a sheriff's deputy said.

The chase began when members of a gang task force tried to stop a silver Toyota at Acacia Avenue and Yale Street in Hemet at 3:12 p.m., said Deputy Albert Martinez of the Riverside Sheriff's Department.

The chase ended when the suspect stopped in the 40300 block of Mayberry Avenue. The suspect got out of the car, which was when the deputy-involved shooting occurred, Martinez said.
