Sheriff's Deputy Shoots, Kills Man Assaulting Woman in San Jacinto, Officials Say

A man was shot and killed early Tuesday morning, when a sheriff's deputy allegedly spotted the man attacking a woman in San Jacinto, a sheriff's sergeant said Tuesday.

Sergeant Lisa McConnell says the officer involved shooting happened around 3:15 a.m. in the 300 block of S. State Street, after police had received "several" calls regarding a disturbance at a home.

"An officer arrived within minutes and located a male suspect physically assaulting a female inside a trailer," McConnell said.

At that time, the officer– "fearing for the safety of the female"– fatally shot the man, according to McConnell.

"The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene and the female was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries," she said.

Per department policy, the sheriff's deputy assigned to the San Jacinto Police Department has been placed on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted.

No further details surrounding the incident were available, and the name of the man shot is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
