UPDATE: Man Was Driving Stolen Vehicle in Deadly Cherry Valley Street Sweeper Crash

One person died Monday when their vehicle collided with a street sweeper in Cherry Valley, the CHP confirms to Banning-Beaumont Patch.

Update 7:30 pm:

A man who died after colliding with a street sweeper in Cherry Valley Monday was driving a stolen vehicle and blew through a stop sign before crashing, the California Highway Patrol reports.

According to CHP Officer Darren Meyer, the 1999 Honda Civic had been reported stolen out of the Redlands area about three hours prior to the 2:35 p.m. crash at the intersection of Avenida Miravilla and Orchard Street, which is just east of Beaumont Avenue.

A Moreno Valley man was driving a Riverside County-owned 2005 Freightliner street sweeper north on Avenida Miravilla, preparing to turn left onto Orchard, when he was t-boned by the speeding stolen vehicle, according to Meyer.

"The victim driver drove east, through the posted stop-sign and directly into the driver’s side of the street sweeper," Meyer said in a press release.  "The impact caused major damage to the Honda Civic.  The victim driver was pronounced deceased at the scene."

Though the Civic was destroyed in the collision, the man driving the street sweeper was not hurt, according to Meyer.

At this time, the identity of the driver is still unknown, and he's only being identified as a white male in his 20s, Meyer told Patch.  The coroner's office is conducting a fingerprint search to find a possible match.

"Alcohol and/or drugs have not been ruled out as a contributing factor in this collision," Meyer added.
