Man Accused of Beating 8-Month-Old Boy at San Jacinto Day Care Facility

A 24-year-old San Jacinto man was jailed in Banning Tuesday, accused of seriously injuring an 8-month-old boy enrolled in his family's child care center, sheriff's officials said.

The man, Tyreece Washington, was arrested Monday following an investigation by the Hemet sheriff's station, according to Sergeant Wallace Clear, who added that authorites were alertd to a possible case of child abuse when the infant was brought to the doctor.

"Staff members from a local medical center reported they received an eight-month-old male with serious bodily injuries," Clear said in a written statement.

That boy was taken to the doctor's facility on June 19, and was still receiving medical treatment and undergoing tests as of Tuesday, the sergeant told Banning-Beaumont Patch.

Due to the nature of the crime and the involvement of a young child, further details about the alleged abuse could not be disclosed at this time, Clear said.

The center— Washington Family Child Care— is licensed and owned by Washington's family, according to Sgt. Clear.

"The Department of Social Services are responsible for child care licensing and were advised of the investigation and arrest," he said.

Though the department was alerted to the incident, Clear told Patch he was not sure what action, if any, will be taken.  Patch contacted social services and was awaiting comment as of the publication of this article.

According to online jail records, Washington was being held in lieu of $40,000 bail at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility and is due in court on Wednesday.  Clear told Patch the sheriff's department will recommend charges of felony child abuse and felony great bodily injury of a child under the age of five.
