Cherry Valley Man Identified in Deadly Street Sweeper Crash

A Cherry Valley man was identified Tuesday as the driver of a stolen sedan that slammed into a street sweeper in a local neighborhood, killing him.

The Riverside County Coroner's Office says 22-year-old Brentyn Mitchell was driving the Honda Civic which crashed into a passing county street sweeper after running a stop sign.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the Civic had been reported stolen out of Redlands about three hours prior to the 2:35 p.m. crash at Ave. Miravilla and Orchard Street, just east of Beaumont Avenue.

Mitchell was not ejected upon impact, and died at the scene about 20 minutes following the crash, according to coroner's reports.

Details surrounding the alleged auto theft were not yet available as of this posting, as the Redlands police and CHP are still investigating.
