You Can Own a Piece of Palm Springs Follies History

Everything from the Follies' warehouses, offices and theater will be sold June 13 and 14 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

The shuttered Fabulous Palm Springs Follies will sell costumes, equipment, memorabilia and other items next month to benefit the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, it was announced Wednesday.

Everything from the Follies' warehouses, offices and theater will be sold June 13 and 14 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Photographs and descriptions of items for sale are posted online here.

The Follies closed down on May 18 after 23 seasons.

"Several years ago, we co-hosted a fundraiser for Palm Springs' new animal shelter," said Follies co-founder Mary Jardin. "In imagining our warehouse sale, we definitely wanted to work with them again ... I think our fans will appreciate knowing that they're not only buying a treasured Follies remembrance, but are also helping a worthwhile organization in the process."

Stephen Boyd, vice president of the Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, said that although the show's permanent closure "is a huge loss for our community, our board and volunteers are so appreciative that they decided to make us the beneficiary of their warehouse sale. What a wonderful way for the community to say good-bye while raising much-needed funds for our shelter."

The $5 admission charge will go to the shelter, and each shopper will get a $5 credit toward any purchase of $25 or more, according to the Follies.

The Follies, whose cast members ranged in age from 55 to 84 and performed pieces from the 1940s, '50s and '60s, announced last June that its 23rd season would be its last. Its longtime home, the Plaza Theatre, will be used for Palm Springs International Film Festival screenings.
